While terrifying news about the future of American democracy flies across the ocean - a rapid process is underway in our country to close the hotbeds of residual resistance against our oligarchy.
As in the good old days under communism - when something happened in Moscow, Zhivkov and Co. quickly copied to show that they were in tune with the new “straight line”. Until perestroika came, which somehow could not stand them and was imposed… downgrade.
Now, however, it is the other way around - the long downgrade from the Obama and Biden era is over, and Trump's first term, which coincided with Borisov-3, was effectively used to consolidate the power of the mafia with a patriotic color. And now this process continues.
Let's take USAID - the attack of the Muscovites against the institution that has helped so many countries build democratic institutions, administrative capacity against serious diseases and free media that are not propaganda funnels of local dictators - was met in our country with aplomb. And the money that it spent in our country - notice - mainly in the 90s on the transition to a market economy and the construction of its institutions - is now being sought by the Kostadinovites and their masters as having sunk into someone's “liberal” pockets - they didn't even understand that the agency stopped working in our country after we entered the EU.
“America for Bulgaria” is also being targeted
- they still didn't understand that informing on their new master wouldn't work - because this is private money invested and returned by the Bulgarian economy and is not subject to American state control.
But the most curious reason is that this money, you see, financed only some media outlets that were critical of “conservative politicians”, such as we should think of as DP, BB and KK. And not that the money is against the threat to any democracy from politicians who have built a parallel state, corrupting everything and persecuting citizens who hold them accountable. There was no way - they tolerated the anti-corruption fund and other associations because they were bothered by the word “America”.
They don't care that the public media - with our taxes - work for them. That they installed their people to manage them; that their agencies measure “public sentiment”; that they distribute the Kremlin's “support points” uncritically, which practically coincide with theirs, etc.
That they even hired Orban's American PR to write in an edition for Trump what enormous abuses American donations had committed in our country against “ideas of conservatism” - and therefore they should be stopped - can you imagine the audacity! In fabricating this nonsense, even the newspaper “Capital” became “left media”!
And so - dear viewers - our conservatism has made it clear that the fight against corruption and for the rule of law are “left values” !?!
I can't help but remember a joke - again from the time of communism.
Brezhnev was giving a speech before the UN, but suddenly … blurted out loudly. “Zhivkov quit” - he angrily ordered our leader.
“But it's not me!” - he justified himself.
“Well, quit, I tell you!”. And Zhivkov left with his head bowed in shame.
During the break, the leaders of the Western nations surrounded Brezhnev: “Mr. Brezhnev, it is humiliating to treat your closest ally like this!”
Brezhnev calmly replied:
“Look - if it comes to that, I got carried away. But when we start, they get angry!”
