Comment by Emi Baruch:
On the eve of March 3 in Etropole, the Bulgarian national flag was solemnly raised in the presence of the president. It was there that the head of state made his first comment on the scandalous meeting between Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.
Rumen Radev began with the words: “Yesterday's meeting at the White House brought back the truth about the war in Ukraine”.
What truth are we actually talking about?
Words are a treacherous thing, Mr. President! They can both hide and reveal human nature. When Rumen Radev - there too - speaks of the “triumph of the Bulgarian spirit”, when he mentions “our ancestors who dedicated their lives to freedom, independence and prosperity”, does he remember that these are the desires of other peoples who want future generations to build their worthy future on the land where their ancestors were born?
Yes, we are talking about Ukrainians
After the invasion of February 24, 2022, Vladimir Putin ordered the war in Ukraine to be called a “special military operation”. In official Russian rhetoric, it was with this term that the authorities tried to justify the military actions as a “limited operation” with specific goals, and not as a full-scale aggression against a sovereign state.
The Kremlin even banned the word “war” as its use in the media or public space could result in sanctions, including imprisonment.
This was Putin's truth. This was also the truth for Rumen Radev. The Bulgarian president refused to call the Russian Federation's treacherous attack on Ukraine a war. He used euphemisms suggested by the Kremlin. He did so in front of Volodymyr Zelensky on Dondukov 2, so the Ukrainian president had to correct him several times: “This is not a conflict, but an open war. A war of attrition […] The war is on our territory, on our land. That is why we know very well that this is not a conflict, but a war”.
The war is red in color
The dividing lines that it drew are also red - both between world leaders and between public figures in Bulgaria. Those who follow the statements of local politicians are hardly surprised by their reactions after Friday's "reality TV" at the White House. It seems that everything is predictable on both sides of the Balkans, even the fact that, out of old habit, our country was late in formulating its position on the Trump-Zelensky scandal. Bulgaria bowed down a little, listened a little, calculating who was where, and only then spoke out.
The paradox of the reactions and the hypocrisy of those who hurried to squat at the foot of Capitol Hill come from the greedy convergence of the positions of Washington and Moscow. That is probably why the Bulgarian proxies were looking for words to compose texts that would both support the American president and the empty "revivalists" to remain “Muscovites”.
And that is not difficult: calls for the restoration of world peace can shelter both hyenas and mice. And not only “Vazrazhdane“ and ITN, but also the Speaker of the National Assembly spoke about universal peace. Yes, “peace and human life are the highest value”, the President repeated on the day of the National Holiday. But the pathos, Mr. President, is false when this value is applied selectively.
With sycophantic hypocrisy and in the hope of being removed from the “Magnitsky” list, Delyan Peevski also joined the Trumpists.
“The world needs peace”
Will anyone dispute this motto? Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov stood categorically in support of Ukraine. He wrote on the X platform: “Ukraine, be brave, be strong! We are with you!”. Full support was also expressed by “We continue the change” and “Yes Bulgaria”.
The terrible price of the sacrifices and suffering can only be felt if you have been raised to feel, they can only be seen if you have been taught to look.
The Trump-Zelensky meeting ended with a magnificent revelation. Although the world media called it the biggest diplomatic scandal, there is also good news: The world heard. The world saw.
Is there anyone who doesn't know who is who?
