Cornelia Hüter wins first women's downhill in Beaver Creek - 1

Austrian Cornelia Hüter won the downhill at the World Cup in alpine skiing in the American resort of Beaver Creek. On the "Birds of Prey" track, where a women's competition is being held for the first time, Hüter managed to record a time of 1:32.38 minutes and overtook Italian Sofia Goggia by 0.16 seconds, who came in second, BTA reports.

The two gave completely similar times along almost the entire course, with Hüter's lead coming in the second sector, in which she was faster than her rival by 0.21 seconds. Third place went to Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami, who was 0.34 seconds behind Hüter.

The representative of the home team from the USA, Lauren Macuga, came in fourth - a little more than half a second behind the winner, followed by Austria's Ricarda Haaser and the Czech Ester Ledecka.

45 competitors took part in this historic race on a traditional men's course, with 43 of them successfully finishing. This was also the first downhill since the start of the 2024/25 season, and before the actual race began, Lindsey Vonn also made the downhill as a forerunner. The 40-year-old American will make her World Cup return next week in the super-G in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

In the World Cup standings, Switzerland's Camille Rast leads with 287 points, followed by American Mikaela Shiffrin (245) and Croatia's Zrinka Lutić (202). Hütter is in 13th place with 100 points.
