France has warned that the possibilities for concluding a new agreement on the Iranian nuclear program are limited, and the failure of the negotiations could lead to a military conflict. This was stated today by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, quoted by Reuters, reports BTA.

“We have several months until the expiration of the 2015 agreement. If a new treaty is not reached, a military clash seems almost inevitable“, Barrot warned during a parliamentary hearing.

The minister added that in the coming weeks the European Union will impose new sanctions against Iran in connection with the detention of foreign citizens in the country.

Meanwhile, Reuters, citing the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, reported that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi discussed with his Russian counterpart Sergei Ryabkov the ongoing negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program.

Although details of the meeting were not disclosed, the media outlet specified that the two sides agreed to maintain close contacts and work to build a common framework that would resolve differences and lead to the lifting of sanctions against Iran.
