Carlos Nassar did something unprecedented - 1

Carlos Nassar is undoubtedly the biggest star of weightlifting in the world at the moment. The Bulgarian won the European title at the championship in Chisinau in the new category for him up to 96 kilograms. Among other things, the 20-year-old weightlifter set two world records in the competition - 188 kg. in the clean and jerk and 417 kg. in the snatch. In this way, Nassar became the first weightlifter to set world records in three different current categories of the world federation. In 2021, at the world championships in Tashkent, Carlos set a peak achievement in the clean and jerk - 208 kg in the category up to 81 kg. In the category up to 89 kg. Nassar has improved his three records nine times in recent years, and now he has also achieved success in the 96 kg weight class.

A similar achievement has not been achieved even by Naim Suleymanoglu, considered the greatest in the sport. The Pocket Hercules also has records in three different categories - 56, 60 and 64 kg., but in the heaviest of the three they were achieved after the restart of the categories in 1993, while for Nassar all three categories are current.

It is interesting that Nassar's records will be current for only one more month, since a new restart of the categories is coming in June of this year. Nassar's current 96 kg weight class will be converted to 98 kg, setting a world standard that will probably not survive long in view of the Bulgarian's requests for the coming years.
