Levski won its second consecutive and 17th title in the men's volleyball championship.
Levski's volleyball players gave their all to win the three possible trophies in Bulgaria - title, cup and super cup, said the team's head coach Nikolay Zhelyazkov after the last match in the final series with Lokomotiv Avia. "The Blues" won 3:0 (25:20, 25:17, 25:20), BTA reported.
"It was a very tough year for the entire team. We played the most matches, but the boys gave their all to win all possible trophies - title, cup and super cup. This is very difficult and bravo to everyone at Levski for the work they put in. All this is the result of a lot of effort and of the management, staff and audience, which have helped us many times. I am happy to be the coach of this team", he told Max Sport 2.
"Every year is different because the performers change. There is no same formula. We changed some elements of our game and it helped us a lot that we were in optimal shape right from the start. Throughout the year, despite the difficulties, we managed to manage the team well. It was not easy by any means", continued Zhelyazkov.
"We had very difficult matches in the playoffs. We started with a loss at home and a mandatory victory, otherwise everything would have ended. It was also difficult in the semifinals. We had very tough matches to get to today and lift the title. This is the result of a lot of work, effort and sweat", concluded the coach of the champions.
Levski was the strongest in the most important moments and this helped the team reach the title in the Bulgarian men's volleyball championship, said the young star of the champions Venislav Antov.
"A very tough series. Maybe the fact that we won it 3:0 is deceiving people. In the first two games we won very narrowly. In the first we were down 2:0, and in the second we were behind in the tiebreak. The most important thing is that we held on as a team", he told Max Sport 2.
"There was a slight decline during the season, but then it was already clear that we would be first. However, in the most important moments, we showed good enough volleyball to become champions," the points leader in the championship also said.
The most valuable player in the final series was also asked if he would leave Levski in the summer: "Now I will enjoy the victory and I assume that in a few days I will have more clarity on this issue".
