Elon Musk Promises AI Games with Photorealistic Graphics - 1

Elon Musk has announced the creation of a gaming studio, xAI Gaming Studio, which will develop projects using artificial intelligence. The announcement came during a live broadcast dedicated to the launch of the Grok-3 model. As a demonstration of the capabilities of the AI model, the developers showed how it was able to generate an analogue of Tetris in the Python programming language.

“We are launching an AI game studio at xAI. If you are interested in collaborating with us to create AI games, please join xAI“, Musk said. No further details have been published about the nature of the studio itself, its concept, the direction that xAI plans to take, or what it will develop, notes Tom's Hardware.

The model has already shown the ability to generate simple 2D games. One user posted a test case where Grok 3 creates a basic version of Bubble Trouble with a simple interface. However, it turned out that the model still cannot correctly reproduce the retro sound effects described in the user's request.

Musk claims that Grok-3 can increase the resolution of graphics in games. However, it is not yet clear whether this technology works only in projects created by the AI itself, or whether it can be used separately, similar to the image scaling technologies from Nvidia (DLSS Super Resolution) and AMD (FidelityFX Super Resolution).

However, the main challenge facing the new studio is to create dynamically generated games with photorealistic graphics. For now, Grok's capabilities are limited to relatively simple 2D projects, and it's not known whether xAI Gaming Studio will be able to create more complex, dynamically generated games, but Musk, as always, is the first to promise.

At the same time, xAI continues to develop its Grok-3 and Grok-3 mini large language models (LLMs), which, as Tom's Hardware writes, generally outperform GPT-4o, Gemini-2 Pro, DeepSeek-V3, and Claude 3.5 Sonnet in a number of metrics.

It already seems clear that the industry is gradually introducing AI technologies into game development. In January, Capcom announced a partnership with Google Cloud to use generative AI to create background elements. However, it seems that xAI has a more ambitious goal - not just developing tools for studios, but creating full-fledged game projects, especially since Elon Musk plans to expand the Colossus supercomputer to a million GPUs, which could accelerate the development of new, even more advanced AI models.
