These innovative batteries provide a range of up to 1,500 kilometers, can be charged with up to 1.3 megawatts and operate at -40 degrees Celsius. The Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology, better known as CATL, officially presented these three new products.
The first is called Freevoy Dual Power Battery and is a battery with two active zones: the main zone and a zone with a self-forming anode. In fact, we have a combination of different types of cells (Sodium-LFP, LFP-LFP and NCM-LFP/NCM-NCM), which makes it possible to increase the energy storage density to 1000 Wh/l without increasing the size of the battery itself. For example, the NCM-NCM Dual Power battery has a capacity of 180 kilowatt-hours, which is enough for 1,500 kilometers.
The second new product is the second-generation Shenxing LFP battery. It can be charged with up to 1.3 megawatts, adding 2.5 kilometers to the remaining range every second. Five minutes of charging will provide 520 kilometers, and a fully charged battery is designed for a range of 800 kilometers. Such batteries also work better in sub-zero temperatures, so at -10 degrees Celsius they are charged from 5 to 80% in 15 minutes.
Finally, CATL's third premiere is the Naxtra sodium-ion battery, ready for mass production. It withstands up to 10 thousand recharge cycles, is extremely safe and can operate at extremely low temperatures. At -30 degrees Celsius, the sodium-ion battery retains up to 93% of its actual capacity and can maintain a speed of 120 kilometers per hour even when the charge level drops below 10%, which is unthinkable for conventional lithium-ion batteries. Production of such energy sources will begin in December.
