CVT is a type of transmission that is the subject of much debate, although its advantages are obvious: cheap and relatively economical. At the same time, however, this type of gearbox has a number of disadvantages, and now we will point out the three biggest ones.
The first is the high cost of repair and maintenance. The oil in CVT transmissions must be changed every 20 - 25 thousand km, which is more often than in a traditional automatic transmission, and costs more.
The second disadvantage is sensitivity to overheating. The variator does not like high temperatures and traffic jams. Overheating can lead to rapid failure of the device, and repairs, as already mentioned, are quite expensive.
And the third main drawback is that the variator does not tolerate sharp acceleration. To avoid damage to the gearbox, you need to accelerate smoothly, especially when starting from a place.
