Drastic violations in the psychiatric clinic at UMBAL "St. Marina" in Varna opened an inspection of a team from the ombudsman, which monitors the observance of the rights of patients in these institutions. Experts made a surprise inspection at the end of last week, after days before one of the clinic's patients (he was tied up) died in a fire.
“After an incident in which a person died in a psychiatric hospital, all kinds of checks are poured in - medical supervision, regional health inspections, etc. And everyone comes, checks, writes bones and recommendations, maybe someone gets a punishment, maybe even a sentence. And so what? That's what I'm asking. When bombs are planted at the entrance of the system, they will rumble at the exit. There was a doctor on duty in Varna as well, announced Lili Marinkova in the FACTS studio. and the show “Conversation“ the psychiatrist Dr. Tsveteslava Galabova.
“It is absolutely the same with us. One doctor on duty for 130 patients, who are located in five buildings, and they are located on 50 acres. I lack six doctors, eight nurses, orderlies, etc. I have 38 sisters - instead of 46, and of these 38 sisters, 18 are pensioners. What to expect… Let someone say. NGOs make a noise about the problems in psychiatry, but they are more concerned with the rights of the patients than with the fact that there are not enough staff. If these 18 sisters who are retired decide to leave… They can do it at any moment. They take off their apron and that's it. I am left with 20 nurses and they have to close two wards - or 60 beds. And I will because I will not allow such incidents to happen due to lack of staff. This is the situation”, added Dr. Galabova.
