I have been a lawyer for 25 years and I know people in the legal community quite well, but I do not know Mr. Orlin Kolev, nor do I know his qualities. In any case, it is worrying that people are being promoted as members of the Constitutional Court who are not known in legal circles. The Constitutional Court, which is the highest-ranking body in the legal and legal world, is supposed to be professionals with qualities and authority. Mr. Kolev does not have this indisputable legal authority. Rather, a trend is observed in the filling of the composition of the Constitutional Court mainly from the quota of the National Assembly, that people are being installed there who will have predictable actions and decisions. This was announced to Lili Marinkova in the studio „FACTS“ and the program „Conversation“ lawyer Ivan Demerdzhiev.
„I think this is a consequence of the misconception of the deputies - of a significant part of them - that the Constitutional Court is a political body and should conduct some kind of policy, something like a second chamber of the parliament, where politicians should seek support, seek understanding from the Constitutional Court“, the guest added.
„Let's not forget that the Constitutional Court should check the compliance or non-compliance of a judicial act with the Constitution, and not give political support to this or that majority in the National Assembly. I think that the fig leaf from the attempt to isolate Peevski and his influence in Bulgarian politics has long fallen. It was precisely this that was some kind of reason to assemble the last cabinet and I do not see that Peevski's political influence has fallen. On the contrary, when it comes to all the more significant appointments in the state, they are made with Peevski's sanction. It is obvious that the proposal for the new member of the Constitutional Court, although it does not formally come from him, was taken from him on this principle“, added Demerdzhiev.
