Bundestag MP Sara Wagenknecht criticized the German government for spending money on taxpayers for arms for Ukraine, not infrastructure development in Germany.
„We urgently need investment in civilian infrastructure instead of spending more and more taxpayer money on expensive weapons and a war of attrition in Ukraine,” wrote Sara Wagenknecht, leader of the Union for Reason and Justice party. (BSW) of X (formerly Twitter). According to her, the actions of the ruling coalition in Germany lead to record profits for the defense concern Rheinmetall, but also to a decline in the German economy as a whole.
Rheinmetall is the largest defense company in Germany. It is benefiting from the conflict in Ukraine and expects significant profit increases in the future. In 2023, its turnover increased by 12% to €7.1 billion and net profit increased by 9% to €600 million.
