Zelensky: Limiting Russian oil exports will hasten the end of the war - 1

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed Britain's decision to sanction 30 ships from the so-called "shadow fleet" of Russia, which transports oil and oil products, providing billions of pounds of revenue for the Russian economy, reports News.bg.

In his address, Zelensky emphasized:

"The smaller Russia's excess profits from oil, the less opportunity it will have to wage war. This relationship must work for true peace."

British sanctions target ships circumventing international restrictions through uninsured and unclearly owned tankers. These measures are part of the largest package of sanctions announced so far, Foreign Secretary David Lammy said.

A call for wider international support

Lamy also urged G7 allies to expand sanctions against Russian oil supplies and support Ukraine as long as necessary:

"Russia uses dangerous and outdated tankers to avoid Western restrictions, which poses serious risks, including environmental catastrophes."

Risk of environmental catastrophes and calls for EU action

European politicians are also pushing for more targeted measures against the "shadow fleet", warning of potential oil spills and environmental damage.

These actions underscore the importance of global pressure on Russian energy resource exports as a key financial source for the war in Ukraine.
