The Munich prosecutor's office has detained a suspected Islamist who is believed to have planned an attack on Bundeswehr soldiers in the German state of Bavaria.
His goal was to kill as many people as possible
The man wanted to attack the soldiers during their lunch break in the center of the Bavarian town of Hof, and his goal was to kill as many of them as possible, investigators said. A few days ago, the 27-year-old man from Syria bought two machetes that he wanted to use in the planned attack. An investigating judge at the Hof district court issued the arrest warrant on charges of preparing a serious act of violence threatening the state.
Disorder and feeling of insecurity
According to investigators, the suspect wanted to attract attention with his attack, causing confusion and instilling a feeling of insecurity and threat. The two machetes he obtained are reportedly about 40 centimeters long.
