India will open new consulates in Boston, Massachusetts and Los Angeles, California, in response to requests from the Indian community in the United States, announced the Prime Minister of the Republic, Narendra Modi, while speaking to representatives of the Indian diaspora in New York.
"Friends, last year I announced that our government plans to open a new consulate in Seattle [Washington State]. Now it works. I asked you to send proposals for two more consulates. “I am pleased to announce that after considering your proposals, India has decided to open two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles,” Modi was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India news agency.
There are currently six Indian consulates in the US - in New York (New York), Atlanta (Georgia), Chicago (Illinois), Houston (Texas), San Francisco (California) and Seattle. The Indian embassy is located in Washington, D.C., and the Republic's permanent mission to the United Nations is located in New York.
