Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov said artificial intelligence (AI) drones have a key role on the battlefield in Ukraine and called for more training in their use, Reuters reported, citing BTA.
The ministry published a video of Belousov's visit to a center for the development of next-generation technologies. A military man demonstrates a simulation of an AI drone that automatically recognizes images.
„Even if we lose contact, the drone will self-direct to the target,” said the serviceman, quoted by Reuters.
Belousov added that two divisions with such drones are already deployed in Russia's Belgorod and Kursk regions, as well as in eastern Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced last month that Russia is increasing drone production 10-fold to nearly 1.4 million units a year.
Ukraine has also taken advantage of drones during the conflict, including with attacks on military targets and energy facilities on Russian soil.
