The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev commented on the social network X the results of the conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, comparing the negotiations on Ukraine to dinner.
"A telephone conversation between Presidents Putin and Trump confirmed the well-known idea - there are only Russia and America in the canteen. On the menu: snacks - Brussels sprouts, British fish and chips and Parisian rooster. The main course is chicken Kiev. A pleasant meal!" - Medvedev wrote in English.
This is how the deputy head of the Russian Security Council responded to the statement of Vladimir Zelensky that the authorities in Kiev “are not a salad or compote to be on the menu menu“. Earlier, British defense analyst Michael Clarke in an interview with Sky News recalled a saying that exists in diplomatic circles: “If you're not at the table, then you're on the menu“.
On March 18, Putin and Trump discussed the situation in Ukraine, the conditions for preventing escalation and some international issues by phone. Putin agreed to the American leader's proposal for the mutual refusal of the parties to the conflict in Ukraine from striking energy infrastructure facilities for 30 days. According to the White House, the parties have agreed to begin technical negotiations on the introduction of “a ceasefire in the Black Sea, a complete ceasefire and permanent peace“.
The key condition for working on resolving the conflict should be “a complete cessation of foreign military assistance and the provision of intelligence information to Kiev“, the Kremlin emphasizes.
