Israel presented the US last week with a list of its terms for a diplomatic solution to end of the military conflict in Lebanon, reports Reuters, citing information from the American news site "Axios", quoted by BTA.
Israel is demanding that its Defense Forces (IDF) receive authorization for an "active presence" to ensure that the Lebanese Shiite group "Hezbollah" will not rearm and rebuild its military infrastructure near the border with Israel.
Another condition is for the Israeli air force to be granted freedom of action in Lebanese airspace, Reuters continues, citing "Axios".
A US representative has said that Lebanon and the international community are unlikely to accept Israel's terms. The White House and the US State Department have yet to make official comments.
The White House special envoy, Amos Hochstein – adviser to President Joe Biden, is visiting the Lebanese capital Beirut today, in an attempt to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict, adds Reuters.
