Donald Trump has offered the post of UN ambassador to Republican Elise Stefanik, reports CNN, citing its sources, quoted by News.bg.
Stefanik, who is in charge of fundraising for the Republican Party, was an outspoken critic of Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign and early in his presidency. However, she later became one of his staunchest supporters, attributing this shift in part to Trump's popularity in her district in upstate New York.
Her aggressive performance during the 2019 impeachment hearings elevated her to the position of a "Republican star," as Trump himself called her. In 2020, Stefanik openly advocated for Trump after his defeat, opposing the certification of Joe Biden's victory and promoting Trump's claims of election fraud.
In 2014, she became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. As Trump sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, Stefanik was among his potential rivals and openly campaigned for the role.
On November 9, Donald Trump announced that he would not invite Nikki Haley again for the post of ambassador to the United Nations.
