An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 was registered today in southeastern Turkey. The tremor affected the area of Doğanşehir city, in Malatya County, and was reported at 10:46 a.m. local time (9:46 a.m. Bulgarian time), the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) announced, as quoted by BTA.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 7 kilometers, and the tremor caused panic among the local population.
At the moment there is no information about injured people or material damage.
Malatia is one of the counties heavily affected by the devastating 7.6 and 7.7 magnitude earthquakes on February 6 last year, which killed over 53,000 people.
