"Gazprom" has informed OMV that it will cease all natural gas supplies as of tomorrow, 05:00, November 16. The interruption of supplies before the expiration of the contract was reported by Der Standard.
The warning was made with an announcement on the CEGH-Remit platform on Friday as an "urgent market announcement".
According to the information, the supply freeze affects a volume of up to 7400 MWh/h.
"Gazprom" declined to comment on this matter.
Yesterday, OMV already warned that Russian gas supplies could be threatened until the end of the year because of the ongoing arbitration case against Gazprom. Previously, the Austrian company announced that it had won the arbitration case against "Gazprom Export". The November 13 decision ordered the Russian gas monopoly to pay OMV 230 million euros in damages plus interest and arbitration costs.
This is one of the first cases to come out of court after the Russian side cut off and began reducing supplies to many European companies and entire countries in 2022, as is the case with Bulgaria.
OMV Gas Marketing & Trading turned to the arbitration court in Paris already in early 2023 on the basis of the difficulties in work that were created for it by the non-fulfillment of a long-term contract.
Russian agencies also publish information about the suspension of natural gas to OMV, also indicating the court decision with the compensations that the Russian company must pay. The information is also published without comment on the reasons for the suspension.
Only last year, the Bulgarian trader "Bulgargaz" also filed a lawsuit against "Gazprom Export" for damages in the amount of 400 million euros due to the sudden stoppage of natural gas in March under a contract that expired at the end of the year. The proceedings are in the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris.
