In Austria: Gas flow from Russia remains stable today - 1

Gas flow to Austria from Russia to the Baumgarten hub in Lower Austria remains stable today, Austrian electronic media reported.

"Gas flow looks stable today also at the slightly lower level observed yesterday,", wrote the expert from the Austrian electricity and gas market regulator "E-Control" Leo Lehr on the "X" platform. The amount of gas delivered yesterday was up to 20 percent less than usual in recent months.

According to the daily situation report from the Austrian Gas Transmission Network Management (AUGM), "volume registrations by market participants for today again show only a slight restriction of imports in Baumgarten".

The flow to Austria is currently reduced, but approximately the same amount flows to Slovakia via Ukraine as recently, added Lehr to the Austrian news agency APA. "This means that the same amount of gas is coming on the route through Ukraine as last week. Obviously, a part of it remains in Slovakia as well," Ler explained. Therefore, Slovak market participants will take part of the volumes of the Austrian oil and gas concern OMV (OMV), whose supplies were stopped yesterday by the Russian company "Gazprom".

The background to the freezing of gas supplies for OMV is the decision of the arbitration court, which awarded the Austrian concern compensation in the amount of 230 million euros. OMV then announced that it would suspend payments to "Gazprom" to recover the awarded millions.

According to experts, the move of "Gazprom" will not lead to a visible increase in prices for consumers in the coming months. However, due to the increase in network charges from 1 January 2025, household costs will rise.
