Lebanese Shiite movement “Hezbollah” confirmed the death of its press secretary Mohamed Afif in an Israeli strike in Beirut, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The pro-Iranian group stated on the Telegram social network that Afif was a “pillar” of the activities of “Hezbollah” in the media and political field.
Afif was one of the last remaining publicly known faces of “Hezbollah” after the assassination of the leadership of the movement and until recently led press conferences.
He was close to the former secretary general of “Hezbollah” Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike at the end of September.
Afif was killed in an Israeli attack on the densely populated neighborhood of “Ras al-Naba“ near the center of the Lebanese capital. At the time of the strike, he was reportedly at the headquarters of the Baath Party, which is active in several Arab countries and is also the party of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.
According to the Lebanese authorities, at least three more people died in the strike, while another 14 were injured.
