At least 13 people died when a building collapsed in the city of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. More than 80 people have been rescued from the debris, President Samia Suluhu Hassan said last night, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
The four-story building in a market in the eastern part of Dar es Salaam collapsed on Saturday morning.
In his address, the president stated that those rescued have been hospitalized, with 26 of them still remaining in medical facilities.
She added that the government will cover the costs of their treatment and help organize the funerals.
Building collapses are common in African cities due to low building standards and careless enforcement, Reuters notes.
