EU has provided 1 million munitions to Ukraine, but Borel demands more support - 1

The European Union has fulfilled its commitment to transfer 1 million munitions to the Ukrainian army, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borrell said, quoted from UNIAN and News.bg.

According to Borel, Kyiv has already received weapons worth 45 billion. euro from European partners, and by the end of winter 75,000 Ukrainian soldiers will be trained. However, he stressed that current support is insufficient to decisively change the battlefield.

„We give Ukraine enough to get by, and sometimes less, while Russia has turned its entire economy toward military action,” Borel pointed out. He added that Russia relies on the support of North Korea and Iran, which requires the EU to increase its aid and remove restrictions on Ukrainian actions.

More support for Ukraine

Borrell stressed that Ukraine urgently needs air defenses, ammunition and long-range weapons, as well as the freedom to strike deep into Russian territory. He pointed out that European aid calculated per capita is symbolic – under 2 euros per European per week.

„Ukraine's freedom and Europe's security are worth much more than the price of a cup of coffee a week. A Russian victory will cost Europe incomparably more, Borel added.

The delay in deliveries

The EU had promised to provide 1 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine by the spring of 2024, but was late in meeting that deadline. The Czech Republic, which has spearheaded an initiative to procure ammunition for Ukraine, has enlisted the support of at least 20 countries in the effort.
