NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has appointed Radmila Sekerinska from the Republic of North Macedonia as the next Deputy Secretary General of the Alliance, reports "European Justice", quoted by Focus.
Shekerinska held the positions of Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Defense of North Macedonia. It plays a key role in the preparation of the country for its accession to NATO in 2020.
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Radmila Shekerinska as the next Deputy Secretary General. She is a staunch supporter of NATO, knows the accession process and understands perfectly what it means to be a full member. "I look forward to working with her in this important position," Rutte said.
Radmila Shekerinska will take office by the end of the year.
The Deputy Secretary General of NATO has the main task of deputizing for the Secretary General when necessary and presiding over the bi-weekly meetings of the North Atlantic Council with the participation of 32 ambassadors, as well as extraordinary meetings, including those of the NATO-Ukraine Council.
