More than half of Ukrainians who participated in a poll by the "Gallup" sociological agency said they want an early end to the war through negotiations, DPA reported, BTA reported.

"The latest Gallup polls on Ukraine, conducted in August and October 2024, found that an average of 52% of Ukrainians would like their country to negotiate an end to the war as soon as possible", "Gallup" reported. "Almost four in ten Ukrainians (38%) believe that their country should continue to fight until victory", the sociological agency added.

For comparison, in 2022 The share of respondents who want their country to continue fighting was 73%, while only 22% advocated negotiations. In 2023, 63% were in favor of continuing the war, while 27% were in favor of its rapid end. Russia has set preconditions for the negotiations, which include territorial concessions and the refusal of NATO membership. In addition, Ukraine will have to undergo the so-called "denazification", which probably means the establishment of a pro-Russian government in Kiev, commented DPA.

According to the latest poll, the results of which were published this week, Ukrainians' trust in the West as a whole has fallen. About 40% of respondents still approve of the leading role of the United States, while 37% express skepticism. Shortly after the start of the war, Washington's approval rating stood at 66%, while skeptics were at 16%.

The majority of the population still has a positive opinion of the Germans' role, with 50% supporting Berlin's actions. In 2022 and 2023, this share was 46% and 53%, respectively. Those polled who disapprove of Germany's position are 29%, while in 2022 and 2023 they were 35% and 20%.

Most respondents still hope that Ukraine will join the EU and NATO, but the poll reports a decline in optimism. The share of Ukrainians who expect their country to become a full member of the EU within the next 10 years has decreased from 73% to 61%. Those who hope for NATO membership have decreased from 64% to 51%. The "Gallup" poll was conducted by telephone among 1,000 people.
