Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the unification of even more voices in favor of a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis. He made this call at a joint press conference with Brazilian President Lula da Silva in Brazil.
„China and Brazil have jointly developed a six-point consensus for a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, and together with the countries of the Global South have established a group of “Friends of Peace”, Xi Jinping was quoted as saying on the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
„We must gather even more voices that speak for peace and pave the way for a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis”.
In September, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in a meeting with Brazilian President Celso Amorim's special envoy in New York, said that China, Brazil and other countries in the Global South would establish a “Friends of Peace” to promote a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.
In May, after consultations, Wang Yi and Amorim issued a six-point joint statement. It stated that dialogue and negotiations are the only way to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. China and Brazil proposed to hold an international peace conference “at an appropriate time” with equal participation of all parties and discussion of peace plans.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the proposals a "good basis" for trying to find peace.
