Malian Prime Minister Shogel Kokala Maiga was fired after criticizing military leaders for not working on the transition to civilian rule, DPA reported.< /p>
The Chief Secretary of the Presidential Office, Alfuseini Diawara, announced the decision last night on national television. "The powers of the prime minister and the members of the government have been terminated," he said.
At a rally in the capital Bamako on Saturday, the prime minister accused the junta of unilaterally and indefinitely delaying the transition process, which was originally scheduled to begin on March 26.
Maiga also expressed disappointment at the lack of debates on the issue, noting that he relies on the media for up-to-date information.
Military leader Assimi Goita had promised elections in February, but they were postponed "for technical reasons" with no new date set.
Goita was among the rebels who overthrew the government in 2020 and, after another coup, in 2021. - became interim president. He then announced a 24-month transition period starting in March 2022 to return Mali to civilian rule.
For now, the government has not announced who will replace Maiga as prime minister.
