Viktor Orbán to invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Hungary despite arrest warrant - 1

The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán announced that he will invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit Hungary, despite the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), transmits News.bg.

Orbán assured that he would not allow the order to be followed and guaranteed the safety of the Israeli leader during his visit.

The Arrest Warrant and Charges

The arrest warrant was issued by the ICC for Netanyahu, former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant and the leader of "Hamas" Ibrahim Al-Masri.

According to the court, they are criminally responsible for alleged war crimes, including the use of starvation as a method of warfare, as well as crimes against humanity, including murder, persecution and inhumane acts.

EU reactions and positions

The European Union supported the independence of the ICC and emphasized that the court's decision must be respected. However, Orban opined that the arrest warrant was "wrong" and confirmed that the Israeli prime minister will be able to conduct negotiations in Hungary with security ensured.

Netanyahu, for his part, said the arrest warrant would not stop him from defending Israel and would continue to fulfill his duties as the country's leader.
