"We can confirm that the 'loud explosion' reported in the area a short time ago was a controlled explosion carried out by officers," London's Metropolitan Police said in a post on the X platform.

The incident led to the closure of the area around the US embassy, located south of the River Thames. Police forces have set up cordons, saying investigations are still ongoing and security measures will remain active for the time being.
