US President-elect Donald Trump said today that he will impose high import tariffs on all goods from Mexico and Canada, as well as additional tariffs on goods from China, once he returns to the White House, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
In his social network “Trut Social“ Trump wrote that he would sign an executive order to that effect on his first day in office.
„On January 20th, among many other first executive orders, I will sign the necessary documents to tax Mexico and Canada with a 25 percent tariff on ALL goods entering the United States,” Trump wrote, adding that the tariffs will remain in place “until drugs, especially fentanyl, and illegal immigrants keep flooding our country!“.
The US president-elect also said he would “impose an additional 10 percent tariff on China on top of current tariffs on all goods entering the US” until drugs stop “flooding our country, particularly from Mexico“.
During his first term as president, Trump imposed steep punitive tariffs on many Chinese goods. During his election campaign for this year's elections, he threatened to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods that could have a serious impact on global trade, DPA notes.
