The American President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will attend the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump in January, a White House spokesman said, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
„The president has promised that he will attend the inauguration of whoever the president-elect is,” White House deputy spokesman Andrew Bates said, adding: “He and the first lady will follow through on that promise and will attend the ceremony“.
The chairman of the Democratic National Committee has informed party leaders that the committee will choose his successor in February, a vote that will show how the party wants to position itself during Donald Trump's second term in the White House, reports Associated Press, quoted by BTA.
Committee chairman Jamie Harrison outlined in a letter to members of the party's influential Rules and Procedures Committee the process for electing a new chairman. Harrison said in the letter that the committee will hold four nominating meetings in January, some in person and some by video conference, with the final selection taking place on Feb. 1 during the party's winter meeting in National Harbor, Maryland.
While the selection of Democratic National Committee chairman is a narrowly partisan issue, it will take place just days after Trump is inaugurated for a second term. Choosing a new chairman amid the election loss of Vice President Kamala Harris will be a key step in allowing the Democratic Party to move forward, including resolving any structural problems within its ranks and defining approaches to how it can oppose Trump, the AP said.
