Russia warns: Handing over nuclear weapons to Ukraine will be considered an attack - 1

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, said that the actual transfer of nuclear weapons to Ukraine would be equated with an act of aggression against Russia. This he specified in a post on his Telegram channel, referring to the country's updated nuclear doctrine, as quoted by Focus.

„The very threat of handing over nuclear weapons to the Kiev regime can be seen as preparation for a nuclear conflict with Russia,“ noted Medvedev.

He added that the actual transfer of such a weapon would be considered an attack within the meaning of paragraph 19 of the “Fundamentals of State Policy on Nuclear Deterrence”.

Discussions on nuclear arming of Ukraine

On November 21, the American newspaper The New York Times reported that some representatives of the United States and European countries proposed the idea of returning nuclear weapons to Ukraine. This weapon was transferred to Russia after the collapse of the USSR in accordance with the Budapest Memorandum of 1994.

However, as the publication notes, such a step is difficult to implement and could lead to serious consequences, including an escalation of tensions between Russia and the West.

Medvedev's statement comes at a time of heightened rhetoric about nuclear security and international efforts to contain the conflict in Ukraine. The threat of a possible nuclear weaponization of Kiev highlights the complexity of the situation and the possible global consequences of such a move.
