After 20 years in hiding: One of FBI's most wanted terrorists arrested in Wales  - 1

Daniel Andreas San Diego, on the US Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Most Wanted Terrorist List in 2009, was arrested in Wales after more than two decades on the run. This was announced by the British and American authorities, cited by DPA and BTA.

Details of the arrest

The 46-year-old San Diego man was arrested on Monday in Wales in a co-ordinated operation by Britain's National Crime Agency, counter-terrorism police and North Wales Police. He is pending extradition to the United States, where he will be tried for organizing two bombings in the San Francisco, California area in 2003.

The charges

San Diego was blamed for two bombings on August 28, 2003. at a biotech company in the city of Emeryville and for an explosion containing nails at a food corporation facility in Pleasanton, Calif., a month later. Although no one was injured in the attacks, his actions are linked to an extremist animal rights group.

In October 2003 A warrant was issued for his arrest, and six years later he became the first American on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List.

FBI Statements

FBI Director Christopher Wray emphasized the significance of the arrest:

„The arrest of Daniel San Diego after more than 20 years in hiding shows that no matter how long it takes, the FBI will find you and hold you accountable. In our country, there is a right and a wrong way to express your beliefs – resorting to violence and destruction of property is not the way to go.“
