Experts warn of growing threat of Chinese invasion of Taiwan - 1

China is in an advanced stage of preparation for a possible power "unification" of Taiwan, US analysts Andrew Erickson and Gabriel Collins argue in a new report commented on by The Telegraph's military columnist David Ax, reports Focus.

According to them, the Chinese Communist Party has reached the highest level of military readiness in its recent history.

"The clock is ticking for Taiwan," warn analysts, who say the island must take immediate steps to strengthen its defenses.

Experts recommend that Taiwan focus on weapons and tactics that can make a possible attack more difficult:

  • Air Defense and Coastal Artillery: Strengthening defensive positions against missile strikes and landings.
  • Mines and anti-ship missiles: To deter a maritime invasion.
  • Drones: Cheap and effective surveillance and attack technology.

They warn that Taiwan should stock up on these weapons in advance, as a Chinese naval blockade will make new supplies extremely difficult once a potential conflict begins.

American support – uncertain factor

While Taiwan relies on support from the US, analysts have expressed doubts about Washington's resolve, especially under a possible Donald Trump administration. "Strong American support is the least realistic part of this recipe," writes David Ax, adding that Taiwan cannot rely on foreign aid alone.

Chinese pressure is growing

According to Erickson and Collins, the Chinese military already has the capability to launch a massive attack. They emphasize that Beijing has invested decades in building a military power capable of realizing the Chinese Communist Party's ambition of "unification" of Taiwan by force.

The key recommendations

Analysts are urging Taiwan to act without delay by strengthening its defense capabilities and increasing its strategic stockpiles. According to them, the future of the island depends on its ability to repel a possible Chinese invasion and demonstrate that the cost of such an attack would be prohibitively high for Beijing.
