The Palestinian group "Hamas" confirmed today its fundamental desire for the fighting in the Gaza Strip to end after the similar agreement reached yesterday between Israel and the Lebanese movement "Hezbollah", reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
At the same time, a representative of "Hamas" told the agency that his organization insists on the fulfillment of the conditions set by it to reach a deal for the cessation of hostilities. Although "Hamas" to respect the decision of "Hezbollah" to cease hostilities, the Palestinian people do not want to give up their resistance against Israel despite the suffering in the Gaza Strip, he stressed.
The conditions of "Hamas" remain unchanged since the start of the Gaza war. Among other things, the Palestinian Islamist movement has tied the release of about 100 Israeli hostages held by the group's fighters to the release of a large number of Palestinian prisoners and to the full withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip.
For its part, Israel wants to leave its troops stationed in strategic positions in the blockaded coastal territory.
During the brutal attacks carried out by fighters of "Hamas" and other terrorist groups in southern Israel on October 7, 2023, about 1,200 people were killed and 250 were captured and taken hostage in Gaza. Estimates suggest that about half of the approximately 100 remaining hostages are still alive.
After the attack by "Hamas" Israel has launched a war in the Gaza Strip, in which more than 44,200 people have been killed, according to data from the Palestinian Authority, DPA notes.
