US President-elect Donald Trump today announced on his own social network “Truth Social” that he will appoint Reserve Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, who presented him with a plan to end the war in Ukraine, as a special envoy to resolve the conflict, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
Kellogg, who served as head of the White House National Security Council during Trump's first term in 2017-2021. and national security adviser to then-Vice President Mike Pence, is likely to have a central role in trying to resolve the conflict in his future position.
Although there is currently no special envoy for the war in Ukraine, the future president has expressed interest in creating such a post.
A quick end to the war in Ukraine was one of Trump's main campaign promises, although he did not say how he would do it.
„Keith has had a distinguished military and business career, including serving in highly sensitive national security positions in my first administration,” Trump wrote on the social network.
Kellogg's plan to end the war, which began with Russia's incursion into the sovereign territory of Ukraine, includes freezing fighting on current battle lines and forcing Kiev and Moscow to the negotiating table, Reuters reported in June.
