Germany to deploy Patriot systems in Poland to strengthen air defense - 1

Germany plans to temporarily deploy its air defense system &bdquo ;The Patriot“ in Poland, the DPA agency reported. The mission of the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) will begin in January, and preparations for it will begin in the coming days, BTA reports.

Mission location and scope

It is planned that the German soldiers and the systems “Patriot“ to be located in the area of the southeastern Polish city of Rzeszów, a key logistics center for Ukraine's military support. The airport in Rzeszów is now protected by American Patriot systems manned by American soldiers who play a central role in the transfer of military equipment to Ukraine.

From January to November 2023. German troops also operated in Poland, where about 320 Bundeswehr servicemen served three “Patriot“ in two locations near Zamosc, only 33 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The mission was aimed at protecting Polish airspace after a missile strike in late 2022 killed two people in a Polish village near the border with Ukraine.

Poland as a strategic partner

Poland, a member of NATO and the European Union, is a key ally of Ukraine in the ongoing conflict with Russia. The country plays a crucial role as a logistics hub for Western military aid to Kyiv.

The deployment of systems “Patriot“ from Germany aims to strengthen the security of Poland, which is at the forefront of support for Ukraine. This temporary deployment demonstrates NATO's commitment to protecting its allies and strengthening defense capabilities in the region.
