The Northern Command of the Israel Defense Forces has given permission to the mayors of cities located on the border with Lebanon to start reconstruction activities, the newspaper reported The Times of Israel.
The order was given by the head of the Northern Command of the country's armed forces, Major General Ori Gordin, at a meeting with city governors. He also indicated that the army is strengthening defenses along the border and building new posts.
As a result of military operations, over 400 houses were destroyed and another 500 required significant repairs.
As the publication notes, due to the fighting between Israel and the Shiite movement Hezbollah, more than 60,000 Israelis living in the northern part of the country were forced to leave their homes. According to Israel's Channel 12 television, they will not be asked to return until February 1, 2025. The information portal Ynet indicates that upon their return the authorities will pay them monetary compensation.
The cease-fire agreement between Israel and Lebanon entered into force on November 27, in accordance with the initiative of the United States and France. The document envisages the deployment of the Lebanese army along the southern border with the support of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. In turn, the Jewish state will begin to gradually (for a period of up to 60 days) withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon.
