The Ukrainian Maidan will not be repeated in Georgia - 1

The scenario of the Ukrainian "Maidan" it cannot be repeated in Georgia, as the country has strong institutions and wise people.

„Radicals and their foreign patrons are always trying to invent a reason for attempted unrest in the country and Ukrainization of Georgia. They have not yet realized that, unlike Ukraine in 2013, Georgia is an independent country with strong institutions and most importantly, an experienced and wise people whose power will not be shaken. The script “Maidan” will not be able to take place in Georgia. Georgia is a country and the country, of course, will not allow this,”, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze said at a briefing.

Employees of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs prevented an attack on the country's constitutional system during the riots at the anti-government rally in Tbilisi, Kobakhidze emphasized.

„I want to thank the Minister of Internal Affairs [Vakhtang Gomelauri] and every police officer for yesterday preventing an attack on the constitutional order of the country and standing guard over the sovereignty and independence of Georgia,” said Kobakhidze .

"You saw that there was systematic violence by the protesters, a group of about 500 people. You see this was not a peaceful action, what we observed yesterday and the day before. There were Molotov cocktails, the use of pyrotechnics against the policemen, after which they received serious burns, the Prime Minister said.

Also, according to him, the aggressive part of the protesters threw stones at the policemen, they tried to damage the fences around the parliament building and get inside.

Over the past 2 days, mass protests have taken place in Georgia. At the Georgian parliament in Tbilisi, on the night of November 29-30, rallies turned into clashes between protesters and security forces, who used water cannons and tear gas. There are casualties on both sides. For two days, the police detained about 150 people.

The reason for the protest was Kobakhidze's statement of November 28. He said that the ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" decided not to include on the agenda the issue of negotiations for accession to the European Union until the end of 2028. and refuse all budgetary subsidies from the community. According to the head of the government, the reasons for this are constant blackmail by the EU regarding the initiation of a dialogue on joining it, requests to cancel some laws passed by the parliament, and calls to impose sanctions on the Georgian authorities.
