EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaia Kalas said during her visit to Kyiv, that the European Union does not exclude the possibility of sending military forces to Ukraine after reaching a ceasefire, reports Focus.
She specified that “the deployment of European forces in a future demilitarized zone may prove necessary to ensure compliance with the ceasefire and avoid a resumption of hostilities”.
The Peaceful Settlement Plan
Callas' statement comes in the context of the discussions surrounding the so-called “Plan Trump“ for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. According to Western media, one of the variants of this plan includes the creation of a demarcation line and the deployment of European military units to monitor the observance of the truce.
Callas stressed that “The EU must be ready to take responsibility for stability in the region after the conflict,” and added that such a mission would be key to preventing future escalations.
