The President-elect of USA Donald Trump has no doubts about the correctness of his decision to nominate Pete Hegseth for the position of head of the Pentagon. The Republican said this on Friday in an interview with the television company NBC.
„Yes, I'm sure. He is a very smart man. He is a soldier at heart. Every time I talk to him, he only wants to talk about military topics,” Trump said when asked if he still trusted Hegseth. - I think it will be approved. I've had a lot of senators call me and say he's amazing."
US media previously reported that US lawmakers were concerned about past sexual harassment allegations against Hegseth, as well as reports of his possible drinking problems.
„Some people have expressed a slight concern”, the elected American leader admitted. - He is a young man with excellent experience. He likes military stuff, I think people are starting to understand that. So we will continue to work on his nomination and many more.
Earlier, the television channel ABC News, citing its sources, reported that an increasing number of US senators do not intend to vote for the confirmation of Hegseth as the head of the Pentagon. In this regard, Trump's advisers are said to be discussing various candidates to replace him. They include Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Tennessee Republican Sen. Bill Haggerty. Sources close to Desantis say he has expressed interest in the position.
Hegseth studied at Princeton and Harvard universities. He served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Hegseth has worked for Fox News for eight years. He also wrote several books and led two veterans' rights organizations.
