The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev arrived in Beijing for two days of talks with Chinese leaders, Russian news agencies reported late last night, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
Medvedev's visit is part of deepening relations between Moscow and Beijing. The two countries pledged to strengthen their "unrestricted partnership" proclaimed in February 2022. just before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov visited Beijing in October, with both sides saying his meetings focused on "substantive talks" in the field of defense and military matters to strengthen ties.
Medvedev, a former president of Russia, has become one of the most vocal supporters of Moscow's operation in Ukraine. Last month, he warned the US to take seriously President Vladimir Putin's downgrading on Moscow's doorstep in the country's military doctrine given the deployment of Western missiles in Ukraine to strike targets on Russian soil.
Medvedev said that the West is wrong to think that Russia will "never cross a certain border".
