US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken begins today a visit to Jordan and Turkey, the purpose of his trip being to discuss the situation in Syria and other key issues in the region after the fall of Bashar Assad, quoted by BTA.

According to a statement from the State Department, Blinken will spend the next few days in talks with his Jordanian and Turkish counterparts, with developments in the Syrian crisis as well as the situation in Israel, Gaza and Lebanon being discussed.

The State Department statement said Blinken will visit the Jordanian city of Aqaba and the Turkish capital Ankara, with important topics expected to include opportunities for international cooperation on these issues, as well as the stabilization of the region after the fall of the Syrian regime.

„We are committed to working with our partners in the region to ensure peace and stability in the Middle East. The situation in Syria remains critical and we will discuss how we can ensure lasting peace,” said Blinken, quoted by the State Department.

At the same time, US President National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan is also traveling to Israel to meet with Israeli officials and discuss the current situation in the country. The White House said Sullivan's visit was part of US efforts to provide diplomatic support in the region and continue efforts to resolve ongoing conflicts.
