The new French prime minister will be officially appointed on Friday morning by President Emmanuel Macron. This was announced by the Elysee Palace on Thursday evening, citing an AFP report, quoted by News.bg.
"The press release on the appointment of the prime minister will be published tomorrow [Friday] morning", the president's entourage specified.
The decision comes at a time of political crisis in France, after Prime Minister Michel Barnier was removed from office almost a week ago.
Political crisis and talks about a Republican Front
Macron organized a meeting on Tuesday with the leaders of all political parties, except the far right and far left, to discuss the formation of a new government.
About thirty independent, centrist and socialist deputies called through AFP for the creation of a Republican Front to unite efforts to overcome the current budgetary, economic, social and international challenges.
The call emphasizes the need to return power to parliament and emphasizes that the president must make it possible the creation of such a front.
Public Attitudes
A survey by the Elabe research center conducted for BFMTV shows that 66% of French people support the appointment of a "technical government" of experts as a solution to the current political crisis.
The idea of a Republican Front is not new. It was also implemented between the two rounds of the parliamentary elections last summer, when left-wing and centrist candidates united to block Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally.
At the same time, Green leader Marine Tondelier called for compromises from Macron, while the Socialists see an opportunity for cooperation after the president's decision to exclude the National Rally from the negotiations.
