The leader of the Russian republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has suggested that the Syrian group “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham“ be removed from Russia's list of terrorist organizations, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Kadyrov posted his proposal on his official Telegram channel and said that Russia and Syria should organize contact groups after the group's removal from the list to establish bilateral ties.
„In order for positive processes to begin, it is necessary to launch the procedure for excluding "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" and its representatives from the Russian list of terrorist organizations. It is important, without waiting for the beginning or end of this process, to immediately organize the work of a contact group of the two countries, which will be able to build the first ties and begin to resolve the problems. This is a global practice that allows us to get out of the crisis as quickly as possible and help the population,” Kadyrov wrote, quoted by TASS.
He suggested that the contact group include Syrians who have been living and working in the Chechen Republic for a long time.
“If we receive an instruction from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, we are also ready to provide support in patrolling the streets with our forces, together with Syrian law enforcement agencies. Police officers from the Chechen Republic have already ensured order in some parts of Syria, protecting people from robberies and violence,“ the Chechen leader added.
