Péter Szijjártó: Hungarian strategy is the only way to peace in Ukraine through ceasefire and negotiations - 1

Hungary remains categorical in its strategy regarding the war in Ukraine. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that only a ceasefire and peace negotiations can end the conflict, which has been going on for over a thousand days. According to him, the only solution is peace, while at the same time he pointed out that the war cannot be won on the battlefield, BTA reports.

„There is no solution to this war on the battlefield. "At least that has become clear," Szijjártó said in a statement, expressing his belief that ending the conflict through diplomacy and talks is the best way forward.

Consequences and calls for peace

The minister stressed that unfortunately hundreds of thousands of people have died and millions have been forced to flee their homes during the past three-plus years of war. The devastation in Ukraine is “dramatic”, and Szijjártó himself called for a ceasefire agreement that could end the destruction and save the lives of many more people.

“Peace is the only solution”, he added, expressing regret that, despite Hungary's efforts to mediate for peace, the Ukrainian leadership has rejected the ceasefire proposal.

The role of the Christmas holidays for a ceasefire

Szijjártó noted that the Christmas holidays could prove to be a good time to initiate a ceasefire and start peace talks that would save lives and end the bloody conflict.

The European position and the new reality

Hungary not only takes a different approach from many other European countries, but also criticizes some EU countries for not fully understanding the new geopolitical reality. According to Szijjártó, arms supplies have not changed the course of the war, but only increase the suffering of the people. “Nothing can be solved by arms supplies. It only adds fuel to the fire“, he said, insisting that a ceasefire and peace talks are the key to ending the conflict.

Forecast of the new political situation

The minister also expressed concerns about the future inauguration of the newly elected US President Donald Trump, pointing out that the Russian army is making progress on the front, despite the efforts of the European Union and NATO. According to him, attempts are still being made in Europe to ignore the new circumstances.

According to Péter Szijjártó, the only possible scenario for achieving peace is achieving a ceasefire and starting peace negotiations. Hungary continues to insist on a diplomatic solution, while regretting Ukraine's refusal to accept the ceasefire proposal, insisting that this approach is the only correct solution in the situation.
