Scholz and his accompanying officials met with representatives of the local government, including the premier of Saxony-Anhalt state, Rainer Haseloff. Feser ordered that all flags in front of federal government buildings across the state be flown at half-mast this morning as a sign of mourning.

A funeral mass will be held at Magdeburg's city cathedral today at 7 p.m. local time (8 p.m. Bulgarian time).
