The first part of the Ukrainian Legion formed in Poland has already left for Ukraine to continue its training, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar said in a comment to Radio "Free Europe"/Radio "Liberty", quoted by Ukrinform.
According to the diplomat, the next group of volunteers will sign contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on January 10, 2025 and will head to a training ground in Poland for further training.
"This is truly a success story, although some politicians or Russian propaganda are trying to present it in a negative light. We, of course, would like the process to develop faster, but it is progressing as it should. We are working to make this information widely available in all countries of the European Union and possibly beyond. We can only encourage this process through voluntary motivation, as this is a completely voluntary unit. I am convinced that our citizens who join will receive satisfaction from quality training," Bodnar said.
He added that the training of the first volunteers in the legion will continue at Ukrainian training grounds. The ambassador did not disclose the number of volunteers.
As reported by Ukrinform, on November 17, Defense Ministry spokesman Dmytro Lazutkin said that over 700 volunteers had applied to join the Ukrainian Legion in Poland, and the first group of soldiers had already begun training after taking the oath.
